Referral

When a prospect answers with “I’m not the right person” or a variation of that, it never hurts to ask for a referral:

Thanks for letting me know! Would you be totally opposed to directing me to the person who deals with {position of ICP} at {{companyName}}?

If they do give a person of contact, you can use this as leverage to opening a conversation. Almost always you’ll get a reply back from the new person:

Hey {{firstname}},

I was discussing {{offer}} with {{previousName}} and they told me to get in touch with you.

And then you can do a variation of your opening email that includes the offer, ICP, guarantee, and a soft CTA.

PS! Using any information that the ‘wrong’ contact gave is a huge form of leverage:

{{previousName}} mentioned that you’re struggling with {{problem}}.

{{previousName}} mentioned that you’re looking for an email marketer.
